Signaller Arnold HEAP - died 30th August 1917

The death has occurred in Salonica of Signaller Arnold Heap, the son of Mr and Mrs James B. Heap, formerly of Rawtenstall, but now of Blackburn. Prior to leaving the district Mr and Mrs Heap resided in Beech Street. Mrs Heap is the daughter of the late George Heap, formerly the well-known local contractor, and one of the first aldermen of the Rawtenstall Corperation.
Signaller Heap was 23 years of age and had been in Salonica about 15 months, prior to which he had served in France, where he was wounded. He enlisted in October 1914.
The intimation which has now been received states that he was killed on the 30th August. As a boy he was connected with the Springside Mission, and was a very bright and promising young fellow.

HEWITT – In loving memory of our dear Son, Lance- Corporal Hewitt, who died of wounds in France, August 16th 1917.

Somewhere in France, in a grave far away,
A sad mother’s thoughts wander day by day;
Unseen by world my son stands by my side,
And whispers, “Dear mother, death does not divide.”

From his sorrowing Father, Mother, and Brothers at home.
